Triforce Mike

This morning I posted a short article entitled “The Triforce.” It’s probably right below this post. I had started writing it last week, but I finished it last night (1/30/12).

Shortly after the post went up today, someone commented on it to let me know that early yesterday morning a man in Orlando, FL named Mike Pandel died from injuries he sustained after being hit by a car while riding his bike. He was a podcaster and a local figure in Orlando, well known and well-liked. He also happened to have the nickname “Triforce Mike.”

It’s an extraordinary coincidence, made even more upsetting by the fact that the last post on his tumblr was about my Bike Accident Report cards.

I’m writing this post to let Mike’s friends and family know that my article was in no way meant to reference his death. I had never met nor heard of Mike, but from what everyone is saying he was a fantastic guy. We probably would have gotten along well.

I also want to express my most sincere condolences to everyone who knew and cared for Mike. As a part of the cycling community, anytime I hear that a cyclist is killed in a car crash, I feel a certain sadness. Today, however, was different. Although I didn’t know him, I feel connected to him through this odd coincidence that’s brought us together. My thoughts are with Mike’s friends and family during this difficult time.

Yours,
Josh
